Privacy Policy

Effective Date: May 1, 2025 · Last Updated: October 28, 2026

ConsumersWeek.com is a web property owned and operated by Maven Media, LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”). We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how your personal information is collected, used, and disclosed. This Privacy Policy describes the information we collect when you access or interact with ConsumersWeek.com and how that information is used, stored, and safeguarded in accordance with applicable laws.

By accessing or using our website, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

1. Information We Collect Automatically

When you visit the site, we and our service providers may automatically collect: IP address, browser type and version, device information, pages visited and time spent, referring and exit pages, and approximate location data where available.

2. Information You Provide Through Forms

We may collect personal information you voluntarily provide when submitting a form on our website, which may include your name, email address, phone number, ZIP code, and, where applicable to a quote or service request, details such as loan amount, credit score range, coverage status, or vehicle information.

Where a form connects you with third-party providers, the consent language on that form identifies how your information will be used and which partner or partners may contact you, before you submit. Email newsletter opt-in is always a separate consent from any consent to be contacted by third-party partners.

3. How We Use Information

We use collected information to provide and improve our services, respond to inquiries, analyze trends and site usage, display relevant content and advertising, fulfill requests you initiate through the site, and comply with legal obligations.

4. Cookies and Third-Party Advertising

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.

You may opt out of personalized advertising through Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info.

Meta Pixel and Google Analytics 4

Some pages, such as our free credit quiz, use the Meta Pixel (from Meta Platforms, Inc.) and Google Analytics 4 (from Google LLC). These tools load only if you choose “Accept” in our cookie banner.

What they measure: visits and page views, the page that referred you, basic device and browser details, and quiz activity: when you start the quiz, move through the questions, finish it, and click a partner link. They also record the video or source tag in the link you followed to reach us. Google Analytics also receives which of the four result types was shown. Your individual quiz answers are not stored by us and are not sent to Meta or Google, and your result is not sent to Meta.

Cookies used: Google Analytics sets _ga and _ga_<ID> (kept for up to 2 years). The Meta Pixel sets _fbp (about 90 days) and, if you arrive from a Meta ad, _fbc. If you are logged in to Facebook or Instagram, Meta may also read its own cookies. We set one cookie of our own, cw_consent (12 months), which only remembers your cookie choice.

Advertising: Meta may use this information to show ConsumersWeek ads to people who have visited our site and to measure how those ads perform. You can read how Meta uses data in the Meta Privacy Policy, and how Google uses data at How Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Your choices:

  • Choose “Reject non-essential” in the cookie banner, or click “Your Privacy Choices” at the bottom of any page to change your choice. If you reject, the Meta Pixel and Google Analytics do not load, and we ask Google to show non-personalized ads. Google may still use cookies for things like fraud prevention and limiting how often you see an ad.
  • If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as a “Reject.”
  • Facebook and Instagram ad settings: accountscenter.facebook.com/ad_preferences
  • Opt out of interest-based ads from participating companies: optout.aboutads.info
  • Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout
  • Google ad settings: adssettings.google.com

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We may share your data with: service providers and partners involved in delivering content, offers, or services you request; legal authorities when required by law; third-party ad and analytics partners, such as Google and Meta, through cookies and similar tags as described in Section 4; and a successor entity in the event of a business transfer or acquisition. Form submissions made through quote-request flows may be shared with the third-party partners identified at the point of submission for the purpose of fulfilling your request.

6. Data Security and Retention

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data and retain it only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law. No internet transmission is ever fully secure.

7. Your Choices

You may disable cookies in your browser settings, opt out of interest-based ads through Google or the NAI, and contact us to request access to or deletion of personal data we may hold about you. Every marketing email we send includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribe requests are honored promptly.

8. Children’s Privacy

This website is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

9. GDPR and CCPA/CPRA Privacy Rights

A. Rights for California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you may have the right to: know what personal data we collect, use, share, or sell; request access to the personal data we hold about you; request deletion of your personal information; opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal data (we do not sell personal data for money; see “Sharing for advertising” below); correct inaccurate personal information; and limit the use and disclosure of sensitive personal information. To exercise any of these rights, email with the subject line “CCPA Request” and specify the right you wish to exercise. We will verify your identity before processing any request and respond within the time required by law.

Sharing for advertising. We do not sell personal information for money. If you accept cookies, Meta and Google cookies on our site collect device identifiers, the pages you view, and your quiz activity for advertising and measurement, as described in Section 4. Under California law, this may count as “sharing” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. You have the right to opt out: choose “Reject non-essential” in the cookie banner or use “Your Privacy Choices” at the bottom of any page. We also honor Global Privacy Control signals. Your choice is saved in the browser you use, so please repeat it on each browser or device.

Your California rights. You can ask us to tell you what personal information we have collected about you, delete it, correct it, and opt out of its sale or sharing. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.

How to make a request. Email keith@mavenmedia.co with the subject “CCPA Request,” or write to Maven Media, LLC, 400 Tenafly Rd #541, Tenafly, NJ 07670. You may use an authorized agent. We will verify your request and respond within the time the law requires (generally 45 days).

What we collected in the past 12 months. Identifiers (such as IP address and cookie IDs), internet activity (pages viewed and quiz activity), approximate location based on IP address, and contact details if you submitted a form. We disclosed identifiers and internet activity to analytics and advertising partners such as Google and Meta.

B. Rights for Residents of the European Economic Area (GDPR)

If you are located in the EEA, you have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; request correction or deletion of your personal information; restrict or object to processing; data portability; withdraw consent at any time; and lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. To exercise your GDPR rights, email with the subject line “GDPR Request.”

This website is operated in the United States and intended for users within the U.S. If you access the website from outside the U.S., your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States or other jurisdictions that may not provide the same level of data protection as your home country. By using this website, you consent to the transfer of your information to the United States.
